Customer Services Skills

Better Customer Services Skills

I recently made a hotel booking via hotels.com to stay at a Hilton Hotel. I put a request with the booking to say I would be arriving late and requested confirmation that this was OK.

Nothing happened, so I thought perhaps Hilton Hotels need some customer loving TLC advice! In the end I found a Facebook page for them and posted a message. Bearing in mind this was a Sunday, I received a response within 2 hours and was given the email ID of someone to write to directly.

I emailed (still on Sunday) and received two further email ID's for both the Front Desk Manager and Head Concierge at the hotel I was due to stay in. I emailed both of those, expecting a response on Monday, due to time differences. Guess what within another hour I had responses back from both, answering my query and thanking me for using Hilton Hotels, plus their mobiles in case I had any further issues.

Bearing in mind that I had a shaky start (although I acknowledge that the booking engine may have been at fault for my message not getting through to the hotel) what an amazingly speedy response from the Hilton brand and they get my gold star service award. Will I use them again – you bet.

In contrast I emailed an online company about help with social media campaigns and was still awaiting a response after 3 days. They are not going to get an award from me and in fact they have already lost the business.

Biggest Meditation Myths

5      Biggest Meditation Myths

1.      Your thoughts should stop and you should have a blank mind.
Your thoughts will not stop, nor do you have to control them. The idea is to allow them, acknowledge them without judgement and without engaging in the dialogue, you become an observer of ALL millions of thoughts.

2.      You need to be in a quiet and private place.
You can meditate at work, on a bus, or in class.

3.      You need to have a lot of practice so it could work.
The moment you stop to meditate you ARE successfully meditating. Love what is.

4.      You can only do it while sitting down.
You can do a walking meditation, drinking tea meditations, standing on line meditations, reading a newsletter meditation!

5.      Meditation is part of religion
Many people who meditate say they feel a deeper connection with their religion. Many people who meditate also feel it has no religious ties. The true meaning of mediation and its purpose is what it means for you.

Now, read these directions.

1. Take a full deep breath in through your nose, breath out through your mouth.
2. Do it once more and focus on the air coming in and out.
3. Do it once more and notice your chest go up and down.
3. Now do step 1, 2, and- 3 with your eyes closed twice!

Congratulations - You meditated!! Do it for 5 minutes and according to Harvard Medical School there will be a 17% reduction in oxygen consumption. This allows your body to heal itself on a deeper level, decrease stress hormones and boost your immune system!

There are many more ways to meditate. The more natural your technique feels to you the deeper and easier it will go.

Change of Career

Change of Career and a Successful Recareering Example
Change of Career
I was at a business networking event, and doing the normal round of chatting, when I met a new face. I asked what he did and he told me that he had just set up a new company for walking holidays in the scenic parts of Cyprus.
We chatted further and I discovered that he was previously a senior manager in the construction industry for many years. Then he was hit with a redundancy, and “decided to follow his passion” – as you can see they were his words and not mine.

Using his training in team building and his personal pastime of hiking and walking, he decided that rather than get another JOB he would follow his heart and do what he loved, as a business.
I was so delighted to meet with someone who had the courage to follow his passion….
Recareering is not just a job change, but a move to a completely different career path. Money, power and prestige are prime motivators for many people switching careers, but others do it to pursue a passion or make a lifestyle change.

The question is NOT what do you want to be (which most career coaches ask)– but WHO do you want to be!
What is your purpose in life and what is the purpose of your life – two of the most evocative timeless questions! Can you answer them?

Personal Vision
Definition Creativity

A personal vision is an important step in any creative process. When it comes to setting our own personal goals, it is essential because it allows for alignment. What I mean by alignment is after the visioning process you know what is most important to you and you can go ahead and create a vision statement for your life. Once you have the vision you can easily see whether a goal is aligned to that vision or not. If it is not aligned go ahead and cross it out because it is really unlikely that you will accomplish it.

So how do we do visioning – visioning is an internal process. So you must quieten you mind and get into a meditative state – ask yourself what is most important to me at this time? What is it I really love doing and who in fact loves me etc. Do not be judgmental and see what comes up. Write down anything that comes up and then when your session is finished review what you have written and again see how you feel about it.

You are really trying to find messages and echoes of from your imagination, which is why getting into a meditative state is so important. Once you have these envisioned thoughts you can create your own vision statement and from that goal setting is not only aligned but also much easier.

Thinking before you get into Students Loans

Consolidate Private Student Loans
I read an interesting article today about how much student loans (in the USA) were costing currently. It’s amazing that the average student loan debt burden now stands at $45,000 at graduation!
So with the extremely high unemployment rates for graduates and those in their twenties the prospect of paying off these loans with high paid jobs is rather low!
So what would be the alternatives to becoming a student? What about:
• In the initial phase, go to work to learn a trade or indeed to get some skills? Earning money whilst learning.
• Taking courses on non-traditional education (say) courses on investing hosted by professionals (those that have done it) rather than professors? Or skills like computer programming and web design – all costing so much less. Rather than spending 4 years wondering what you want to do, getting into debt and taking lessons you will probably never use, figure out what you want to do and take specific classes that will help you in the future at a fraction of the cost.
• If you have to spend $45,000 to get a degree just to work in a supermarket, why not skip the debt, get a job at Tescos or Wal Mart, save some money and begin investing! Find a class in finances, learn all you can and become an entrepreneur now without debt!
• Why not start a business? Some of the most successful business entrepreneurs never went to college, or dropped out. They decided that rather putting their talent and energy in other people’s pockets, they could use them for their own goals. If you have a good idea why not go with it now?
• Find out what your real passion is and pursue it.
All of these would involve new thinking and effort – are you the sort of person prepared to do it? Effort directed into something that you really want to do will seem much easier than effort of “going through the motions.”

Authenticity
I have a confession – I have always thought that Pret A Manger sandwiches are great. They focus on making great sandwiches from ingredients carefully sourced using as much organic content as possible.
They obviously understand what their customers like, because they are booming in the current downturn. So let’s look at some of the key facts – their sandwiches are great value, but not cheap. They use great ingredients and carefully monitor customers preferences and trends in lunch/sandwich requirements.
Another key factor is their social responsibility. They give away unused sandwiches to the homeless rather than throw them away. Last year they gave away 2.4 million sandwiches. This is great corporate social responsibility. For many customers it also means that they have the satisfaction of knowing that the homeless can share in the experience of having a tasy well made sandwich.
This is a great example of complete authenticity between the brand, its customers and the wider aspects of society. There are many lessons to be learned and I hope that Pret A Manger keeps its core values without dilution to chase profitability.

Impossible Answers Breaking beliefs

Impossible Answers Breaking beliefs – a great example

Impossible Answers

As many people are gripped by the Olympics in London, here is a great lesson about how an individual person literally changed the perceived wisdom of the word.

This is the story of Dr Roger Bannister is a great example of someone who was prepared to challenge an established Paradigm and create a brand new one.
For many years it was widely believed to be impossible for a human to run a mile in under four minutes. In fact, for many years, it was believed that the four minute mile was a physical barrier that no man could break without causing significant damage to the runners’ health, including the thought that their hearts would burst with the effort.
On a windy spring day, on the 6th of May 1954, Dr Roger Bannister ran a mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds. He broke the paradigm or psychological barrier. What made this event so significant is that once the four minute barrier was broken by Roger Bannister, within three years, by the end of 1957, 16 other runners also cracked the four minute mile. The paradigm had changed because one man dared to believe what was considered impossible.

Success Business Stories And Trust

Success Business Stories With Trust

Merriam Webster dictionary defines it as:
“assured reliance on the character, ability, strength or truth of someone or something”
or
“a charge or duty imposed in faith or confidence as a condition of some relationship”

Success Business Stories

In a business sense trust is an essential component of a successful business. There is trust between customers and the brand to deliver exactly what is promised and this is supported by the employees of the company who have implicit trust in the organization to provide them with the best career and workplace environment.
In summary you have a direct linkage of trust running from: customer, brand which is represented by its employees.

Teams and individual employees

As a team member, you have a critical role in helping your team identify and address trust issues that hinder your team's growth and effectiveness.  Assessment tools can provide an opportunity to reflect upon your team environment and use your first-hand knowledge to evaluate the level of trust in your team or work-group.
Trust is to have belief or confidence in the purpose, honesty, actions, competency, decisions, and intentions of a person, organization, or team based on predictable behaviors observed over time.
In an ideal work situation, people trust each other; they do not feel people will do them harm; they feel that their members have the knowledge, skills, and motivation to interact with each other and get things done.
Trust is often strained when major organizational or business changes are made. It is imperative that individuals and teams fully understand the vision and plans so that they can be embraced and implemented effectively. This cannot happen in an environment of doubt and uncertainty.

As the current economic situation continues to reverberate around the globe, organizations need to focus on trust, as they try to do more, often with fewer resources available.
Equally customers will be more inclined to spend their hard earned cash with brands that they trust.
